The latest short from Curtin Parloe Films, Almost There, wrapped shooting yesterday. Director Paul Anderton said, “I’m very happy with the way the shoot went. Everyone was professional , and we have some great rushes.”

Almost There concerns a man trapped within an escape pod when his ship is hit by an asteroid. “There will be several model shots, which are likely to be CGI. I’m confident that we can find an artist who’s up to the unique challenges involved.”

Almost There stars Patrick Lally, and is due for release in the Autumn. For more information, contact almostthere@curtinparloe.co.uk

Principal photography has completed on No Regrets, a new short by Nicolas Challenor.
Peter (Wayland Donlan) is a no-hoper who suddenly finds an opportunity to change his life, but he soon finds that the decisions we make can have far-reaching consequences.
It took three intensive days around Bolton, both day and night shoots. “I tended to avoid using lights,” says Paul, “especially for the exteriors. It was mainly a case of choosing the right locations and getting the available light to work.”

No Regrets is in post-production and due for release in the Summer.

I completed shooting on Last on Sunday evening, and since then I’ve not stopped. It was a crazy few days, and the flat is a complete tip now! Gemma very kindly offered to help in an acting capacity, and the story took a new and interesting turn as a result. When I looked at all the post-apocalyptic movies around – I am Legend, the forthcoming Y: The Last Man – it was surprising to find that there are hardly any featuring women (the only one I can find is The Last Woman On Earth by Roger Corman). That can only be good news for Last. I’ll be editing the rushes tomorrow (later today, really), and hopefully it’ll be pretty good.

No sooner has it begun than it has ended, and Last has completed shooting in Bolton and Leigh. Gemma Deerfield stars as Patricia, the last woman left alive, and Paul Anderton plays Derek, the last man. Paul also wrote and directed the short apocalyptic drama, and will also edit. “It’s been something of a whirlwind, as there was very little preproduction, and the shoot itself was two short days. It was an interesting challenge to act and direct, but I had a lot of help from Gemma and Dave,” Paul says, referring to David Noble, who served as cinematographer on Last.

Last is due to be submitted to international film festivals in February.

Notes

This was a fun shoot in Huddersfield, over one night during the Christmas holidays in 2004. I used a tiny little Canon MVX100 (Optura 20 in the States), and lighting was restricted to practicals and a maglight, hence the poor image quality – the Canon doesn’t cope well with darkness. The one thing needed is grading to monochrome, but as a first-year project I’m still quite proud of it.
